Former Google DeepMind scientist Bilal Chughtai has warned that AI could wipe out the entire human race. He also said that very little time remains to stop it. After resigning, he warned the world about this hidden threat from AI.
Earlier, Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon had also resigned. In a post on social media platform X, he said that the developers building AI themselves acknowledge that the technology could prove fatal for humans by 2030. AI poses two major threats to humans… Bilal says: Little time left to avert the danger Bilal Chughtai was part of the team at Google DeepMind whose job was to ensure that AI works only for the benefit of humans and does not cause harm. He said, “While working at Google, I have seen AI being developed and changing from very close quarters.” The path this technology is taking is frightening. AI could wipe out the human race, and there is very little time left to avert this threat.” Bilal believes companies will soon create AI that is more intelligent than humans. A time will come when humans completely lose control over it. In 4 years, AI has gone from the ordinary to hacking Speaking about the pace of AI’s transformation, Bilal said that when he began working in 2022, AI systems were very basic. However, the situation has changed completely in just the past 4 years. Recently, AI company OpenAI claimed that its AI system had solved a very difficult 90-year-old mathematical puzzle known as the Navier-Stokes problem. Another frightening incident occurred when around 700 AI agents from OpenAI tried to hack the systems of a company called Hugging Face, without being instructed to do so by any human. Demand to stop the race among AI companies Bilal says it is still possible to develop AI safely, but all companies will have to co-ordinate with one another to achieve this. He said, “This crazy race between companies must be stopped. We need to bring the pace of AI development down to a level that our society can handle, so that any major threat can be addressed before it arises.” Anthropic CEO also calls for a slower pace Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has also advised slowing down the pace of AI development slightly in an article. He says this would provide time to understand and address the risks associated with AI. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk have also supported this view. Trump said: If rules are imposed, China will overtake us While scientists and the heads of AI companies are calling for regulations and stricter controls, US President Donald Trump has taken a different stance. Trump has rejected the idea of strict regulations on AI.
He argues that if restrictions are imposed on American companies, China will overtake them in this race. Trump said, “Whoever wins the AI race will rule the world.”
