Nikhil Kamath chat with Elon Musk uncovers remarkably interesting answers:’My partner is half Indian, and my son’s middle name, Shekhar, honors Nobel laureate Chandrasekhar,’ Musk reveals

In one of the most awaited podcast conversations of the year, Nikhil Kamath sat down with Elon Musk for a wide-ranging discussion that delivered several surprising revelations. Musk shared that his partner, Shivon Zilis, is “half Indian at heart,” and revealed that he named his son ‘Shekhar’ after Nobel-winning astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. During the conversation, Musk praised the contribution of Indian talent to the United States, saying America has gained immensely from it. He also predicted that over the next 10–20 years, rapid progress in AI and robotics will reach a point where human work becomes optional, something people pursue more like a hobby than a necessity.
The nearly two-hour episode of Kamath’s podcast People by WTF, released yesterday, is packed with insights, bold predictions and unexpected personal anecdotes. Here are some of the key questions that came up during the conversation.
Read important parts of the interview… Question 1: What will be the future of work due to AI and robotics? Answer: My estimate is that in the next 10-20 years, work will become an option. People can work if they want, or not if they don’t. AI will do so much work that most needs will be fulfilled by robots and machines themselves. Jobs will become like a hobby for humans instead of a necessity. Some people will work because they enjoy it, not to fulfill their needs. AI and robots are advancing like a tsunami. In just a few years, more goods than needed will be produced in the world, meaning prices will decrease. Question 2: What do you think about Indian talent in America? Especially amidst the recent debate surrounding the H-1B visa? Answer: India is very important for the world. There is a lot of talent here. America has benefited greatly from Indians. The smartest people at Tesla and SpaceX are Indians. The H-1B program was misused, but talking about ending it is wrong. No country can function without border control, but talented immigrants should be welcomed. There was a free-for-all in the Biden administration, which had a negative effect. America needs top talent and India is a leader in this. In my companies, we bring the best people from all over the world. Immigration policy must be balanced. Illegal immigration should stop, but skilled visas should be promoted. Question 3: Why was Twitter made X? Was this the right decision? Answer: Twitter had gone into a kind of ideological imbalance. It was promoting leftist ideas, while right-wing voices were being suppressed. I tried to make it equal for everyone. X’s vision is a global town square, meaning words, video, calling, messaging, and payments all in one place. That is, X’s future is like an everything app. Question 4: You have many children and from multiple partners? Do you believe in the traditional family model? Answer: Yes, I believe the traditional family model works and is right for most people. My situation is a bit different, but that doesn’t mean the traditional family model is wrong. Question 5: I was surprised to see your body, you are quite muscular, I hadn’t thought so. Answer: (Laughs) Oh stop, you’re making me blush! I just work out, but the real cheat code is – never quit. I still work more than 100 hours. Question 6: America has a huge debt, what is the way to solve it? Currency deflection or something else? Answer: Currency deflation will not work. There is only one way – AI and robotics. This will increase productivity so much that the debt will be managed. But this will only be like a change, it won’t last long. For permanent growth, we will have to move towards universal high income, where AI creates value. Question 7: What advice would you give to India’s entrepreneurs? Answer: Create value, be consistent. Things are in India’s favor today, but the ability to take risks must also be increased. In things like AI, space, one has to think 10-15 years ahead. Patience wins, so the future belongs to patient people. Question 8: Your passion for the letter ‘X’? Answer: ‘X’ is my childhood obsession – since I was 10 years old. It is a symbol of the unknown and exploration. My companies, SpaceX, X (formerly Twitter), all have it. Question 9: America has a lot of debt, what is the way to solve it? Currency deflation or something else? Answer: Currency deflation will not work. There is only one way – AI and Robotics. This will increase productivity so much that debt will be managed. But this will be just like a change, it won’t last long. For permanent growth, we will have to move towards universal high income, where AI creates value. Also know about podcaster Nikhil Kamath
