India has emerged as the world’s leading country in workplace AI adoption, topping the global ‘AI Advantage’ index with a score of 53, far above the world average of 34, according to the EY 2025 Work Reimagined Survey.
The ranking highlights how quickly Indian workers and organisations are adopting generative AI, and more importantly, how effectively they are using it in daily work. One big reason for this lead: Generative AI adoption. In simple terms, AI is no longer experimental in Indian offices; it’s already part of daily work. India also leads in ‘Talent Health’ Beyond AI adoption, India also scored highest in Talent Health, with a score of 82, compared to a global average of 65. This metric reflects employees’ perceptions of workplace culture, rewards, and learning opportunities. Many Indian workers reported feeling trusted and empowered by their managers, which has contributed to a more positive and supportive work environment. What Indian employees really want at work The survey also breaks down what matters most to Indian employees today. Here’s how the priorities stack up: Interestingly, employers are now placing nearly equal emphasis on AI skill-building, signalling a shift towards future-ready workplaces. This shows a shift; companies see AI skills as just as valuable as traditional rewards. Workplace culture is improving Workplace culture emerged as another strong factor behind employee satisfaction. Many respondents said their office culture has improved, team bonds have strengthened, and collaboration has become more effective, leading to better leadership behaviour across organisations. Learning is key Despite the growing focus on learning, the actual time spent on AI training remains limited. Most workers spend less than 40 hours a year learning new AI skills.
However, the survey found that those who invest more time in learning are less likely to leave their jobs and manage to save more time every week, proving that continuous learning has a direct impact on both retention and productivity.
The key takeaway
India’s top ranking in the AI Advantage index shows that AI adoption, strong workplace culture, and employee trust are coming together powerfully.
While there’s still room to improve learning time, the foundation is already strong, and that’s giving India a clear edge in the global AI-driven workplace.
