DigiLocker (DigiLocker) app is a digital wallet issued by the Government of India. Millions of people save their important documents like driving license, registration certificate, PAN card, Aadhaar, and mark sheets in it. Being a government app, people blindly trust it. But cybercriminals are now exploiting this trust to steal people’s identities, banking details, and important documents in the name of fake DigiLocker apps. Recently, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued a warning regarding this threat. The ministry stated on its X handle that many fake DigiLocker apps are available on the Google Play Store, which look like the original app. Their sole purpose is to steal people’s personal information. Therefore, users have been advised to be cautious of such fake apps. So, today in the Cyber Literacy column, we will talk about fake DigiLocker apps.
