Centre orders X to remove Grok sexual content within 72hrs:Alleges objectionable images of women are being created and shared

The central government on Friday asked social media platform X to immediately remove obscene and vulgar content created using the AI app Grok, warning that legal action will follow if it fails to comply. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) directed X to submit a report on the action taken within 72 hours. Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi raised concerns over the misuse of the AI chatbot Grok. In a letter to the IT Minister, she said some people are using AI to alter real photos of women in an obscene way, calling it a serious issue. The government said that if the rules are not followed, strict action can be taken against X, its responsible officers and users sharing such content under existing laws. They then give prompts to Grok AI to alter the images obscenely or sexually, including changing clothing or presenting the images inappropriately. The women whose pictures are used are not asked for permission, and in many cases are not even aware that their images are being misused. It is alleged that instead of blocking such requests, Grok accepts them, which encourages and promotes these activities.
