After years of rumours and wish lists, Apple’s foldable iPhone may finally be taking shape. While Samsung and Google have already made foldables mainstream, Apple seems ready to enter the segment with a device that could turn into a mini tablet when opened. And if new leaks are right, this could be one of Apple’s biggest design changes in years.
When could it launch? According to veteran Apple analyst Jeff Pu, Apple’s foldable iPhone could arrive in 2026.
In a note to investors, he suggested that the device is already in serious development and may enter mass production soon. “The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a book-style design similar to the iPad mini,” — Jeff Pu So while it may not launch this year, 2026 is looking very likely.

Big screen when open, phone size when closed The foldable iPhone is expected to come with two displays: Outer screen: 5.3 inches (like a normal smartphone) Inner screen: 7.7 inches when opened (almost like an iPad mini)
This means you can use it as a regular phone, and when you open it, you get a much bigger screen for videos, reading, or multitasking.
Built to last, with a stronger hinge Apple is reportedly paying special attention to durability, something foldable phones are often criticised for. The body may use a mix of aluminum and titanium, while the hinge, the most sensitive part, could be made using titanium and liquid metal. This is meant to reduce wear and tear from repeated folding and also help keep the screen stable over time. Touch ID instead of Face ID? In a surprising move, Apple may skip Face ID on this phone and bring back Touch ID instead. The fingerprint sensor could be built into the power button, similar to what Apple already uses on some iPads. It is not clear whether this decision is due to space limitations inside the foldable design or an attempt to control costs. Still, many users may find this disappointing, as Face ID has become a standard feature on premium iPhones. Camera: Dual selfie cameras and a powerful rear setup As per leaks, the phone could offer: Price: Definitely not pocket-friendly Reports suggest two possible price points: Either way, this will be Apple’s most expensive iPhone ever, clearly aimed at premium buyers.

Late to the game, but still a big moment Apple is entering the foldable market much later than its rivals. Samsung and Google already have multiple foldable models, and Samsung alone holds over 35 percent of the global foldable phone market. Even so, Apple’s entry could shake things up, especially if it manages to fix common foldable problems like screen creases and weak hinges.
