In Nagpur, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday flagged off the Guided Pinaka rocket system from the plant of Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL). The system will now be exported from this facility to Armenia, marking a significant milestone in India’s defence export journey. On the occasion, Singh also inaugurated SDAL’s Medium Caliber Ammunition Facility and inspected the rocket assembly area. He praised the private sector’s growing role in defence manufacturing, stating that private companies are making substantial contributions toward ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India). Singh highlighted India’s ambition to become a global hub for ammunition production. He noted that earlier ammunition shortages had limited the use of modern weapon systems, but the situation is now improving as a wide range of ammunition is being fully manufactured in India. Pinaka export a major achievement The Defence Minister termed the commencement of Pinaka missile exports from the Nagpur facility as an achievement for India. He said it not only demonstrates the strength of the country’s defence industry but also boosts India’s defence exports. Singh added that several countries have shown interest in acquiring the Pinaka system. Once all required tests are completed, the Indian armed forces will also deploy the system for national security. The Defence Minister further said that the government aims to increase the private sector’s share in defence production to 50%, ensuring India becomes fully self-reliant in meeting its defence requirements.
