Indian Government-Grok obscene content row:Here’s how to stop Grok from using your X data and photos for AI content

For the past couple of weeks, X (formerly Twitter) has been stuck in a heated back-and-forth with the Indian government over AI-generated content on the platform. After the Centre raised concerns about explicit AI images and misinformation, X admitted faults and removed hundreds of accounts and media posts. The incident pushed AI safety and data control into the spotlight especially at a time when Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot is gaining attention for how it generates content and learns from user behaviour. Once your picture is there, Grok has enough visual information like your facial structure and features to produce AI-generated images of you. So, the simplest and safest rule is this: don’t upload personal photos to Grok. No photos means no visual data, and therefore no AI recreations. What changes after you disable it? Grok will still work normally just without leaning on your social data. Replies become more general and less personalised. You can return to Data Controls anytime to re-enable settings or explore options like exporting data, sharing chat links, or clearing cache.
