Innovation can come from anywhere, and this time, it comes from a Class 12 student in Uttar Pradesh. Aditya Kumar, a 17-year-old from Bulandshahr, has created an AI-powered robot teacher named ‘Sophie,’ built on a small budget of just ₹25,000. A video of Sophie answering questions like a real teacher has now gone viral, drawing massive attention online. Meet Sophie: The AI teacher In a video posted by ANI, Sophie confidently introduces herself. She says: Hello baccho, main ek AI teacher hoon. Mera naam Sophie hai, aur mujhe Aditya ne invent kiya hai. Sophie currently teaches at Shiv Charan Inter College, the same school where Aditya studies. She can explain concepts, respond to student queries, and even solve small maths problems, including “100 + 92.” How Aditya built the robot Aditya used an LLM chipset, the type of technology found in advanced robotics, to bring Sophie to life. He shared: I have used an LLM chipset to build this robot… It can clear students’ doubts. For now, she can only speak, but we are designing it so she can write as well. He built the structure, programmed the AI model, and created the voice system using accessible tools and components. What Sophie can do Right now, Sophie can: Her design shows how tech can support classrooms, especially in schools with limited staff. Why Aditya wants more labs in schools Aditya believes students across India can innovate too, if they get the right resources. “There should be a lab in every district so students can come there and do research,” he said. He hopes his project encourages authorities to build better, more advanced labs for young learners. Robotics in education Sophie shows how robots can be useful in everyday school life: With upgrades, Sophie may soon start writing or displaying notes. A young inventor with big potential Aditya Kumar’s creation highlights the talent and creativity emerging from India’s youth. Sophie may be simple, but she represents a growing interest in robotics and AI, and a future where technology supports both teachers and students. And with more opportunities, Aditya hopes to take Sophie even further.
