Russia’s first AI-powered humanoid robot, AIDOL, fell as soon as it came on stage at an event in Moscow. Its demo was being shown in front of about 50 journalists.
After this, the organisers quickly pulled the robot inside and put up a black curtain. The organisers attributed it to calibration and lighting problems. What happened on stage: From grand entry to failure At the event, AIDOL was introduced like a heavyweight boxing match. The famous theme music from ‘Rocky’ played, the robot climbed onto the stage and waved to the audience. But within a few seconds, it stumbled and fell. Dmitry Filonov, editor-in-chief of Adinorg Media, who was present in the audience, said: First there was silence, then everyone clapped to show support. This was Russia’s first such public demo where an AI robot attempted to show human-like behavior. Company’s CEO said: The robot is currently in the learning stage AIDOL’s CEO Vladimir Vitukhin, told the Russian State News Agency TASS, “The robot is currently in the learning stage. Hopefully, this mistake will turn into experience.” The company clarified after the event that it was neither a technical glitch nor a design failure. AIDOL’s Background: What this robot can do The company claims on its website that this humanoid robot can walk, handle objects, and communicate with people. Developers say it can be useful in the automotive industry, warehouses, medicine, and entertainment. The special thing is that most humanoid robots do not have a face, but AIDOL has heavily invested in a human-like face. The company’s focus is on AI-embodied machines. That is, a machine in which AI has been fitted into a physical body. Global Humanoid Market: Investments and competition The race for humanoid robots is accelerating worldwide. In 2024, over $1.6 billion was invested in this technology, not including Elon Musk’s Tesla Optimus project. Companies like Boston Dynamics have also gained fame with their Atlas robot.
